If you are concerned about ambiance, setting, friendliness and something more than ordinary, you must stay here. The old fort setting is phenomenal. Sitting on the old fort walls having breakfast or a cocktail while overlooking the Isla de Tavira and the Atlantic was breathtaking. Cabanas de Tavira is a small tourist beach town where we had several good meals, met some very nice locals and is totally different than the old Fort. I would think that this B&B is more suitable for couples than families, but given that if I ever return to Cabanas I will surely bring my children so they can experience this as well.

Trying to locate the elusive Sr. Gabriel. We found it easier to pay for water service than wait for the paid person for the hotel to return from his seemingly endless breaks.

We travelled for several weeks in Spain and Portugal and Forte De Sao Joao Da Barra was our absolute favorite place to stay. The tranquility, privacy and luxury of the Forte combined with the easy walking distance to the beach and town made this a perfect place. The views from the Forte are unbelievable. The hotel is mainted to perfection and the architecure and accomodations are magnificant. Perfect.
