One of my worst hotel experiences

The room itself was nicer than I had expected. It was set up in a way that made it feel spacious. It had a small table and chairs which was nice for working remotely.

We were woken up at 8am by someone walking into our room. There was never a knock on the door as housekeeping usually does. Someone used a key card to access our room. Once the door was open my dog started barking and as we struggled to figure out what was going on in our sleepy stupor, we heard a man say "sorry" and the door was quickly closed. When we walked outside no one was in sight. Shortly after our rude awakening, my husband went outside for a cigarette. He stepped out into the balcony and hadn't even put the lighter to the cig when a man from the next room came running out threatening to call the cops because it's against the law to smoke within 25 ft of the rooms. Which my husband wasn't aware of at the time. We arrived late in the evening the night before and while the hotel did give us a notice about this policy, I had made the bed for us and he hadn't seen the notice. The man who threatened the police was wearing a Motel 6 shirt and we believe this is the same man who entered our room. Later that morning while my husband was rearranging and repacking the vehicle, this SAME man stood just a few feet behind him and watched the entire time. Not wanting to deal with any altercations, my husband didn't say anything to him and just went about his business. When checking out I brought all of these concerns up to the women at the front desk. I was met with deer in headlight looks as I shared my morning's excitement. They apologized and said they believe it was one of the maintenance crew members who I was referring to. I was assured the cops would not be called (which was the least of my worries!). The complete lack of and violation of our privacy was my biggest concern! They did not seem to care so much about that.
